Entering Into the Awkward World of Community Evangelism
Dear friends,
The past few weeks have been a roller coaster of emotions as I have begun re-launching a decade-old ministry in our community after a season of staff transitions. I’ve experienced fear, excitement, joy, anticipation—and yes, plenty of awkwardness.
If you’ve ever tried to rebuild something that once thrived, you know the feeling. Things look familiar yet strangely new. You wonder how to reconnect, how to start conversations again, and why you ever thought stepping outside your comfort zone was a good idea. For the first time in years, I feel like the “new person” again.
In previous ministry seasons, I stepped into settings that already had established rhythms, trusted leaders, and built-in community. I was the one helping newcomers feel at ease.
But this time, the tables have turned. I’m the one reintroducing myself, learning new names, discovering what’s changed, and figuring out how to rebuild trust and momentum. I’ll be honest—it’s humbling and uncomfortable. Yet in all of it, the Lord has graciously reminded me of why we’re here.
As Bill Bright once said, “Facts, not feelings, drive the faith train.” These are some of the truths I’ve been standing on during this season. I hope they’ll encourage you, too, as you step toward the awkward situations where God may be calling you to share His name and His love.
Mark 16:15 – And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”
God’s call is always outward. He sends us to go—into neighborhoods, workplaces, and communities—to proclaim His good news. Awkwardness doesn’t disqualify us; it simply reminds us that obedience is often uncomfortable.

Isaiah 41:10 – Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
God’s presence turns discomfort into dependence. These moments remind me that evangelism isn’t about having the right words but about trusting the right Savior.

Proverbs 27:17 – Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.
Re-launching a ministry has required me to lean on teammates, church partners, and friends in new ways. Their prayers, encouragement, and honest feedback have sharpened me more than comfort ever could.

Hebrews 13:14 – For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.
Every awkward encounter is a reminder that this world is not our home. We are citizens of heaven, sent as ambassadors into our communities with the promise that our King is with us every step of the way.

So if you find yourself in an evangelism season that feels unfamiliar or uncomfortable, take heart. Awkwardness often means you’re right where God wants you—on the frontlines of His mission, depending on His Spirit, and seeing His grace in new ways.
Thank you for praying, training, and walking with us as we step into the awkward together—trusting that God will bring beauty, fruit, and eternal impact through it all.
